Question: Need your thoughts on my unexplained phenomenon...what do u think?
(Posted by: wyldflwr34 on 2006-07-20 09:13:32)
I have various puddles in my basement that me and my kids are finding. There is no leak in a floor board or pipe. Nothing leaking around it. These are BIG puddles, like 2- 4 cups of water right in the middle of the floor. What could it be? I've already ruled out I think, everything...? It is water. Not pee, or anything else.... Help me try and figure this one out....What do you think? No water coming up from the floor. No water coming from a pipe above, or ducts. No kids pranking me. No rain coming in. No way for water from my two window air conditioning units to come in. Not just condensation, we are talking about a lot of water. My basement is sealed, painted, and is generally pretty dry for a basement. I've spent a couple of weeks trying to figure this out..... |

Is your cold water pipe or the toilet above real close? Could be condensation and dripping from the pipes |

Some kind of condensation, but definitely not supernatural. |

Why don't you go down there after someone flushes the toilet or takes a bath. |

Condensation? have you had warm weather recently? |

Is your basement humid? It could be condensation dripping from the air conditioning ducts. |

A very unspiritual thought--could the basement slab be sweating in very humid weather? |

It's probably condensation from your pipes, which are usually located on the ceiling of the basement. Try a dehumidifer. |

Mabe a washing machine, or an underground well. |

Humidity maybe? Condesation from warm humid air collecting on the cooler concrete. |

Maybe your kids or someone else is playing a joke on you. Call a plumber b/ f concluding that it is necessarily the supernatural--but I do believe in that stuff too. So, it could be something more than can be explained. |

If none of your kids are confessing to making these puddles, I'd hire a land surveyor to check for ground water. |

Honestly I believe in the unexplained. It could be water seeping up from the ground unless it's concrete other wise maybe it is something that can't be explianed by in the normal world..ya know? |

The water table in your area may have risen. Have you had much rain lately? |
|
Posted by: Ralley on 2006-07-20, 09:18:24
Could it be coming up from below? |

Sounds like you have it covered . if your Cement in the floor of your basement is not sealed under the Concrete it could seep up through it. Moisture come up. like a Barometer |

Are the puddles near cracks in the floor? -water could seep up from below. If you have a video camera, I would set is up and film it at different times of the day or nite- maybe you can see what is happening. |

Before jumping to conclusions, call a person that you can trust that is a plumber or construction worker, who can help solve your mystery. The water has to be coming from somewhere! Do you clean it up every day? Is it alwary in the same place? You may have a pipe under the floor that has ruptured and is leeching into the spot, because that is where the rupture is....That is a serious problem. You would need to have it checked immediately. Good luck. Nana |

If it has been raining in your area, and there are cracks in the centers of these puddles, the water-table could've risen and seeped up from below. Or if not, you could have a poltergiest of a person who drowned, haunting your basement. Or, aquaman could be could be squatting there. |
