Question: What does god do that is supernatural?
(Posted by: James on 2010-02-25 12:41:41)
I believe in God but the 'power of God' is physics and nature, not magic. Outside of the Bible name one spectacular unnatural thing that God has done. |

Well, for starters there are all those miracles attributed to Him. I'm not venturing a guess whether they're authentic miracles or not, but they are documented as such: abetterlife.net/ testament1.html embracedbythelight.com/ miracles/ index.htm lists.topica.com/ lists/ awesomelist/ read etc |

There are no such things as gods, spirits, angels, demons, devils, witches, elves, fairies, leprechauns, or unicorns. These are fictional characters from cultural mythology. |

Unless you believe that once created something is self-sustaining, I'd have to answer with Aquinas : Everything. And what can 'unnatural' mean if you define everything that does in fact happen as 'natural' Yikes !!! |

Yes, he's really powerful. He can make people believe in something that does not exist. |

That is impossible. You do not believe in God if you are requiring his (Christian God) proof. God is metaphysical (beyond physics). You cannot ask for physical demonstration of the immaterial. No one can prove to you that God (Christian God) exists outside of their own FAITH in the validity of the Bible (PERIOD). Personally, I do not believe in GOD in the traditional sense, but I do believe (through reason) in an initial cause or rendering of beginning if that makes sense. But it's kind of tough to form a religion and gain followers for something so far removed from understanding. You HAVE TO HAVE AN IDOL TO WORSHIP. Heck even non-Catholic Christians have idols. |

I was diagnosed bi-polar schizophrenic at 23 years old. I was an addict and a slave to drugs and alcohol. And former atheist. After months and months of debating the bible with this guy at the gym. (we both worked there) I gave in to one of his bible studies, I went and that night I accepted the truth of Christ dying for me. I asked him to come into my life and show me his power. After walking a garbage bag full of smut into the dumpster that night alone, I asked Jesus to never let these things enter my heart/ life again. It was 2 weeks later when I realized I had been sober for 2 weeks and months later doctors had to renounce my medical psychiatric conditions. Nobody can tell me this wasn't the power of God. Nobody. |

Sometimes miracles in the Bible are just natural that God has attributed to Himself. For example the 10 Plagues of Egypt being caused by the Santorini Volcanic Eruption, or Noah's flood being caused by an asteroid strike in the India Ocean (see Burkle Crater). My "supernatural " experience is having prayer answered. That simple. |

I'm an atheist but I agree with you inasmuch as if there is a god, it's probably the universe itself. I think that pantheism and deism are the only really plausible theories of God, but a personal god who intervenes in humanity's affairs and performs miracles is ludicrous. No-one has ever seen a miracle or seen the laws of science and nature broken in any way. They may have been hallucinating, but that's a different matter. There is a rational, scientific explanation for everything. |

Everything God does is natural and everything is a manifestation of God. Everything comes into being through, is sustained by, and returns to the Source according to the Laws of Nature, the workings of God, the Intelligence of the Universe, and everything that happens occurs according to the workings of Nature. It is only we humans, due to our limited knowledge and understanding of what is natural, who label some things and events as supernatural. As Einstein said. "There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. " It all depends on your point of view - how limited or unlimited it is. All the names God, Allah, YHVH, etc. and all of our concepts of what they mean are indicative of our limited awareness, knowledge and understanding of the One and all of divine manifestation. Traveling the spiritual path is a process of constantly expanding our awareness, knowledge and understanding, of constantly evolving towards the One. It's all magic, yet none of it is - it all simply IS, and WE are all part of it. |
