There are different kinds -- he's probably red/ green, which about 8% of males have. He wouldn't be able to distinguish them, but he sees blues, yellows, etc. |

There are different degrees, it is hereditary for the most part, and no he does not see black/ white/ grays, he misinterprets and mixes certain colors together. |

Why not ask your friend what he sees? |

Color blindness is a male trait. it just means that there are certain colors that do not register correctly, usually blues and greens. they look brown to the color blind... |

There are different types of colour blindness, the most common being protanopia - the inability to distinguish between red and green because of lacking red-sensitive retinal cones. This website simulates colour-blindness: colorfilter.wickline.org/ |

It tends to run in the family but mostly with boys. it DOES NOT mean he cannot see color. he just mixes colors up. like, i have a friend and her little brother is color blind. when picking out a backpack, he picked up a purple one and insists to this day that it is blue. so like, a person who is color blind may think an orange shirt is pink or a grey car is white. they don't mix up all colors, just maybe blues and greens may be a problem. it depends on the person. maybe you could ask him about it. just tell him your curious and want to know more about his situation. |

There are different types of colour-blindness. It basically means that when certain colours are close together, a colour blind person cannot tell them apart. My brother is colour blind: with his particular colour-blindness, he struggles to differentiate between green and red when they are placed together. It is hard to imagine how it happens, I don't even know how. When the colours are on their own he can easily differentiate; it is only when they are placed together that he can't. Edit: Also, I think he sees some colours incorrectly all the time. I seem to remember that everytime he saw something that was (o everyone else) grey, he would always claim that it was blue. |
